Bonjour Jolie Super Fabulous Fall Mystery Box 2015

Oh the saga that was this box. When I purchased this box the email stated they would ship out the end of October 2015. Mine arrived at the end of December. I had to contact Bonjour Jolie at least five times about shipping and after they finally understood I was not talking about my normal monthly box they eventually sent out a second box.
There were a few different boxes you could choose from at different price points. I chose the:

NEW!  $30 Super Fabulous Fall Mystery Box:

  • 2 Full Size Beauty Items (valued at $16 each or higher)
  • 2 Mystery Jewelry Items
  • 2-3 Sample Pampering Items
  • Variety bag of Teas
  • Variety of Sweets
There was a TON of stuff in this box, I just kept pulling things out like it was never going to end.

I love apple cider so I was excited to see so many packets, I would have preferred more original than pumpkin flavored but they are both yummy. Two full chocolate bars are not a bad deal at all, I gave these to Beast as I have had enough Kit Kats to last a lifetime. The peppermint bark protein bars, on the other hand, went right into my purse and they were amazing! They just tasted like candy bars.

The quality of the jewelry from Bonjour Jolie is not always amazing but it is usually pretty cute. I had gotten a black version of the wooden bracelet and wished I had gotten brown instead so that worked out. I already received the little starfish necklace in a previous box which is bound to happen so this will go to my friends daughter. The gold necklace is cute, I don't wear a lot of gold jewelry but I will keep this for the rare occasion my outfit calls for it. The little snowflake earring are super cute and sparkly, I likely wont wear them very often but they would be great for a holiday party or an ugly sweater party. I don't know why but I was really excited for the little gold pouch from Victoria Secret. I use it to keep a lipstick and balm in so I can just grab it when I go to the bathroom and do a touch up.

These are all skin care samples and include a lemon face scrub (love), a face mask, lip mask, eye cream, face oil, sunscreen and a Evelyn and Crabtree lotion that smells amazing. I think there is a perfume sample in there as well.

There was quite a bit of makeup in this box, jasmine body lotion, hair shine spray, concealer samples, mascara, Burt's Bee's lip gloss, loose pigment eyeshadow, Laqa & Co lip and cheek tint, eyeliner, eyeshadow samples, eye shadow duo and eye primer.

It definitely seems like I have more than what was advertised, I don't know if that is just how it came or if they jammed some extra stuff in there when they had to resend. I will use most of the skin care stuff and some of the makeup but I don't think I was worth the money once you factor the exchange rate and shipping to Canada.

Bonjour Jolie December 2015

Bonjour Jolie is a period supplies subscription service. Each month you get your period supplies along with treats, pampering items and a gift. This is the December 2015 box and it will be my last. I have cancelled my subscription because the shipping is awful, at least to Canada. All international boxes are supposed to ship at the first of the month since they can understandably take longer to arrive. The last few months I have had to contact the Bonjour Jolie support team to get tracking information or have my box resent at the end of the month after not receiving anything. I do like the box itself, it is a great service that is just so convenient but I am going to save my money and maybe try out a Canadian company in a few months.

Everything always comes packaged very nicely in little gift bags with a card detailing most of the products.

Out of most of the period boxes I have checked out Bonjour Jolie seems to have one of the best selections of supplies. You can choose any combination of  twenty five pads, tampons and panty liners with the ability to change it each month.

As always they nailed it on the snacks, they always include chocolate and hot drinks. This month we got hot chocolate which is very seasonally appropriate but I do prefer the months we get tea.

This is the pampering bag, we got some wipes and Advil packets along with some other goodies. We got two sets of Gold Powder Eye Masks, I used one right away and I have to say I like these much better than the material type ones (like Skynn Iceland). They stay in place, are very cooling and my under eye area looks oh so slightly less puffy and tired. We also received this little hand painted ornament/candle holder. They were purchased from a school close to Bonjour Jolie and while I don't know that I will use it, I do like that they are helping the community around them.

This is the gift for this month, a necklace with a value of $20. For the life of me I cant find the card that says where it was from. Mine came with the stone popped out but it fit back in easily enough. If it was silver I might have worn it but this just isn't my style so I will be passing it on to my friend's daughter.

Overall I am not super impressed with this months box, two of the things I just will not use. At least I do not regret my decision to cancel.

Bonjour Jolie - October 2015

Bonjour Jolie is a period subscription box that sends you a customizable combination of pads, tampons, liners and/or menstrual cups along with snacks, teas, pampering items and a gift.
I am not sure what is going on with this subscription, last month it arrived at the end of the month but this month it came mid-month. Also I do not always get the Midol and heating pads I added to my subscription. Maybe since I added them when I bought a three month recurring subscription I only get them in the first box of the renewed three month subscription. I do not know but what I do know is that I love this box all the same. I never have to think about if I have enough period supplies and get some fun little treats and gifts as well.
This is my October box and I love the Halloween feel. The Theme is "At last, Chocolate" Can't argue with that.

The least exciting part but the point of the box is period supplies. I have way too many tampons and pads now so I think I am going to switch to full boxes so they are easier to store.

I love the cute Halloween snacks! We have some Russel Stover Chocolate Pumpkins, Das Foods Caramel Lollipops, Flips Chocolate Covered Pretzels, Goetz Chocolate Creams, and a mini Rice Crispy Treat and strawberry waffers that are not listed on the card. You can't go wrong with Russel Stover and these pumpkins were amazing, especially the salted Caramel. The suckers were just perfect sea salt caramel flavour.

I am all about tea now that it is chilly enough for hot liquids. At home I use loose tea but the tea bags I get from this subscription go right to my desk at work and make for great mid-afternoon pick me ups. This company has a cute story on the card. Apparently in 1942 New York Ruth Bigelow was a housewife that made tea so delicious that her friends soon began buying it from her. The same family owns the company and operated the only tea plantation still open in the USA.

The gift: We got a makeup item for the second month in a row and that works for me. We received Tat2Lash Mascara ($16) It is a decent mascara, lengthening without clumping and does not smudge as the day goes on. Nothing life changing but I will certainly use it.

Pampering: As usual we have super handy Advil packets and some cleansing cloths to keep your business fresh. We also received two items from the Gilchrist and Soames BeeKind Collection ($4) At first I was not thrilled with the packaging but after I picked them I realized that the cardboard containers were quite thick and on the back it says that the packaging is a 92% reduction in waste compared to plastic. I have yet to use the shower gel but the body lotion is lovely. The lotion absorbs almost immediately without any stickiness, leaves a very light scent. I really like this lotion but I have so many subscription boxes I will never need to purchase lotion for as long as I live. A portion of the proceeds from sales of those products go to support honey bee and sustainable pollination research.

The value of this box without the period supplies is about $28 and with a three month subscription I pay about $22 a month. Well worth it in my opinion.

Bonjour Jolie - September 2015

Bonjour Jolie is a period subscription box, for the details check out these posts: Bonjour Jolie - July 2015Madame Lady Bug vs Bonjour Jolie

The theme for the September box is "De-Stress and Stay Calm" I can use all of that. I didn't receive this box until nearly the very end of the month but it was so worth the wait. I was cited about everything I received.

Product Card

The least exciting part but the whole point of the box is the period supplies. There are quite a variety of brands of tampons and pads to choose from, even menstrual cups. You can also choose any assortment of up to 25 products or a full box if you don't want your hygiene items handled.

You can also choose some items to help you survive your period. I added Advil packets, heat pads and Midol. These heat pads and Midol have saved many lives together.

Check out these snacks! Beast loves this box, anytime something comes in the mail he doesn't recognize he asks if it is the one with snacks. You can't go wrong with Mini M&Ms, blueberry shortbread and little buttery cakes. The Bali's Best Tea and Coffee Candies are amazing, there are latte, original iced tea and green tea flavours and each tastes exactly like each of those things. The Chimes Organic Ginger Chews took a little getting used to, they were very gingery. The mango and orange ones were much better than the original ones.

Yes. These teas from Yogi are amazing. I am all about receiving tea in my subscription boxes, especially since it is fall and starting to get chilly. I have had this brand before and love the Soothing Caramel Bedtime, I actually fell asleep before I could finish it on two separate occasions.

The Gift

Laura Geller Baked Eyeshadow in Strawberry Shortcake and Coffee Bean $24
The product card describes these eyeshadows as highly pigmented, based on the swatches below I do not really agree with that but I do like them. I have been using the pink shade as a light, natural blush and the brown as my base eyeshadow shade. They are infused with grape seed  oil and without mineral oil or parabens. The formula is so soft and really makes my skin soft underneath the makeup. Would I pay $24 for this? No.

The Pampering

Tocca Bodywash in Cleopatra $4
"A gentle cleansing wash that conditions with the natural essences of olive oil, honey, and calendula extracts. A rich lather washes cleanly, leaving even the most sensitive skin soft, supple and lightly fragranced of grapefruit and cucumber. Gluten and paraben free"
I actually just received a luxury hand lotion in the same scent from Tocca in my September Birchbox I find the scent to be very sophisticated and fresh, the body wash is more lightly fragranced than the lotion. Normally I find this type of scented shower gel to be rather drying or it just does not rinse cleanly. I do not have either of these issues with this bodywash. I am very happy to try another product from this brand.

The value of the box before the period supplies in the first two photos is $38. If I was ambitious enough to do all the math to figure out the cost of the pads, liners, tampons, Advil, Midol etc it would really boost the value of the box. Bonjour Jolie is both practical and a treat, you are going to purchase period supplies anyway, why not have them show up at your door complete with treats, gifts and pampering items? I see no reason not to.

Bonjour Jolie - August 2015

I signed up for Bonjour Jolie late enough into July that I got both my July and August boxes in the month of August. I had actually forgotten I was getting another box so it was a complete surprise after work. I did not get any shipping information for this one either but I am not really upset by that. I know it ships at the beginning of each month and without tracking information it is one less thing to check obsessively.
This month's theme is Hot August Nights. If you are not familiar with Bonjour Jolie it is a period supply subscription service that comes to your door in a discreet box with everything you need plus a few extra things to help you get through this cranky time. For some more information check out on of my first posts here

First we have the period supplies, you can get different combinations of many brands of tampons, pads, liners and/or menstrual cups. If you prefer your items not to be handled you can pick a full box of one item. You also get a couple packets of Advil and Summer's Eve Cleansing Cloths to keep your business fresh.

Every box includes snacks and Bonjour Jolie nailed it this month, M&M's cookies? Yes. Ate them right away. We also got some Rock Candy Sticks, Gobstoppers, Lemon Heads and Jelly Bellys. All solid candy choices. All these are worth about $7.

So many teas, last month we got some cold drink mixes and while they were yummy I am glad we got tea this month. It is currently too hot to think about hot water but I love trying new teas. I have put a no buy in place because I just have so much tea piled up. This way I get to try a variety without filling my cupboards. Also according to the card the word stash comes from back in the day when tea was usually transported but clipper ship and the captain was presented with some of the finest teas for his personal use, AKA his "stash" and that, children, is why we use the word stash to describe anything put away carefully because it is precious to us. Tea and a fun fact, what more do you need?

Bonjour Jolie Beach Waves Salt Spray $15 at bonjourjolie.com/shop
This is the pampering item this month and it's a very good size. I will always be willing to try anoth beach spray, easy waves without using heat? Yes. Give me that. This one is supposed to add texture and waves without making your hair sticky or drying it out because it has organic argan oil to moisturize. It smells like argan oil and just slightly of citrus. I gave it a quick spray and it really did not make my hair sticky or dry, I have used sprays that have given better waves but this is almost like a conditioner along with a wave spray.

Just a Little Sparkle Silver Plated Rhinestone Headband $19 at addjustalittlesparkle.com
This is pretty cute and at first I was concerned it would get stuck in my hair but it is really quite comfortable. This is handmade and apparently they have all different ones for different occasions. If you  want to get one of your very own you can use the code "BONJOUR" for $5 off until 8/31/15

The value of this box is $41.25 without including the period supplies in the first photo. I am impressed with both boxes I have received so far and am glad I have signed up if for no other reason than I don't have to think about buying tampons.

Bonjour Jolie July 2015

I have signed up for a new monthly subscription! I had tried a single box from Bonjour Jolie at the beginning of the year and it remains the most popular post so it seems you would enjoy more of these type of posts.

If you have not heard of Bonjour Jolie it is a "A Premium Subscription Box Designed Exclusively for women to Be Pampered During Their Period!"

Cost:
Try it box $20
Monthly Subscription: $16
Shipping: USA $5, Canada $8.50, Worldwide International $14.50
There are also three and six month subscriptions that save you a couple dollars per box for paying upfront.
Active duty military members and their spouses recieve free shipping to military bases, APO's and FPO's when using the code "MILITARY"

Each Box Containes:
  • up to 25 feminine items - can chose a combination of pads, tampons, liners and even menstrual cups or a sealed box of pads, tampons or menstrual cups
  • hand curated gift
  • specialty bath and body pampering items
  • artisan confections
  • teas and drinks
  • feminine wipes
  • advil
  • a card with some information about the items including price and which snacks are sugar free, vegan or gluten free
You can also give information about allergies and change your preferences for feminine items.
In the USA you can pick your shipment date based on your cycle but all international orders are shipped the first week of the month due to varied international shipping delivery times.

Let's take a look at the July box:

Each group of items come in different coloured organza bags or a sealed plastic wrap so your items are not just floating about the box.

Beyond the necessary feminine items you also get packets of advil, heat pads and feminine wipes. All of these things can be so very helpful during your period, from easing cramps to helping you feel more fresh.

Another very important part of surviving your period is having the right snacks. This time we have some Fiji Apple Crisps which are freeze dried apples and delicious. The only ingredient is apples so a healthy snack too. We also go a handful of Swedish Fish, some fruit filled sea shell candies and a package of skittles.

These little guys are the teas and drinks section of the box and at first I was not sure how good they were going to be but I was blown away. The Pina Colada tasted exactly like you would expect a pina colada to taste. It says to mix them with water but I am sure you could mix them with your alcohol of choice (given you are of age in your country of residence) and they wold still be delicious.

Bonjour Jolie Organic Body Scrub, $12
"Made with organic olive oil and jojoba oils, sugar and essential oils. Gently exfoliates your skin while drenching it in nourishing oils. Vegan and gluten free."
I was so happy to see that the pampering item was a body scrub, easily one of my favourite pampering items. It smells like a tropical vacation after you have spilt your drink on yourself. I have not used it yet but am looking forward to it. To purchase one of your own go to BonjourJolie.com/Shop.

Silver and Stone Starfish Necklace, $14
"This delicate silver plated necklace lets you keep a peice of the beach with you all year long"
The gift is this super cute necklace and I am sure I will get some wear out of it.

Value of the box: $35+
That is without the cost of the feminine product, heat pads, Advil or wipes. Clearly this is worth what you pay for it, especially when you consider you do not need to remember to pick up tampons or whatever you need or make any special trips.

Madame Ladybug won in the following categories:
      • Number of boxes offered
      • snacks

Bonjour Jolie won in the following categories:
      • Cost
      • Shipping
      • pamphlet/card
      • teas and drinks
      • bonus item value
      • surprise gift value
      • bath and body items
I am calling the feminine items a tie because while Madame Ladybug provides 5 more each has excellent selection and Bonjour Jolie offers the sealed box.

Madame Ladybug won hands down in the snack department, both in quantity and quality. The 6 does not even include the little chocolates and caramels also included. The overall winner, however, was Bonjour Jolie. They had a much more professional appearance and high valued items. Not to mention the price and shipping was much more reasonable by the time you pay to have Madame Ladybug shipped to Canada it just is not worth it.

Bonjour Jolie - January 2015

I first saw this period box on Ashley Elizabeth's YouTube channel and decided to give it a try. The box costs $16 and shipping to Canada is $8.50. You can make requests when ordering and change your preferences when needed if you subscribe. I also ordered a period box from Madame Ladybug. I will link that post below and put up a comparison post as well. Here we go:

            This box includes:

      • 25 feminine items
      • feminine wipes
      • bath and body pampering items
      • specialty teas and drinks
      • Artisan confections
      • a special gift
      • Advil if you need it

At opening the package looks really well put together, nice and neat.

The blue package is all your requested period supplies. They have quite a variety to choose from. You can mix and match or you can pick a sealed box which is a really nice feature in case you do not want people handling your hygiene products. You can pick up to 25 items.

To explain all the other items you get this little card with a description and price for each item.

The next bag is the Pampering Bag. I got two feminine wipes, a life saving heat pad, two packets of Advil (if you requested it) a bath gel, lotion and hand sanitizer all from Bath and Body Works. The lotion is in Coconut Lime Verbena and is not a very strong smelling lotion but rather a fresh smelling sort of lime scent. The bath gel is in White Citrus and I actually have the body spray in this scent and love it. Again just a light fresh scent. The hand sanitizer is Vanilla Berry Sorbet and smells heavenly. I used it as a perfume the first couple days after I got it. Once I use up some body washes I already have I will be looking for this scent in some bath products. Not counting the heating pad, wipes or Advil this bag has a value of $4.75.

The oh so important snack bag is next. It is worth about $4.50. There were more Sunkist snacks originally but I opened this at a friends house and they disappeared as I was laying everything on the counter for photos. I think there were five to begin with. The Caramello bar didn't last long either, I've never seen this bar before but it is pretty much a Caramilk bar therefore it is delicious. The Chocolate Almond and Sea Salt granola bar had me a little hesitant but it was also yummy and actually quite filling. Last thing was the tea. I love that there were so many, not an expensive item but I liked getting to try five different flavours without having to buy whole boxes. Even the flavours I didn't think I would like (mixed citrus, mixed berry) were great. My least favorite was the mixed berry and the best was the Rooibos and Cinnamon.

The last bag is the Special Gift item. It is a Blue Swarovski Crystal Pendant Necklace from New Zealand. The website for which is radiancejewellries.co.nz. This is valued at $30 so that is over the cost of the box plus the shipping to Canada.

I am really glad I ordered this box, not just for the fact that I don't need to go buy period supplies anytime soon.  I have worn the necklace quite a few times, the pampering items get lots of use and all the snacks are long gone. The packaging and card looked professional and neat. Having descriptions and prices for each item was a plus. The heating pad and wipes were not on the card but from the videos I have seen it looks like they include those every month. If the heating pad comes every month that is a huge selling point for me. Those things are not cheap but can save a life on those terrible crampy days. The little bags everything comes in also can be reused for so many things. I am going to use them for Christmas presents and other gift bags.

As for subscribing to this I don't know that I would, simply because I don't need that much in terms of period supplies but it is something I would certainly consider getting as a little treat now and again. I was impressed by this box.
